With 8 classes to choose from,
Cat Haven offers a fun way to meet school standards.

Educational classes are a great way to get the most of your field trip to Cat Haven! Below is a list of classes that can be taken in addition to the guided tour of our facility.

If you are unable to visit, we can bring our classes to your venue for an additional travel fee if it is located within a 60-mile radius of Cat Haven. For further distances, please call for a price.

Minimum enrollment for all classes is 15 students and advanced reservations are required.

Tracks & Trails

Students learn how to interpret animal tracks. What is a stride? How can you identify a specific animal’s track? Identify several species tracks in the classroom and make a plaster cast of a bobcat footprint to take home. This class can be taught to almost any grade, third and above. (Bring a lunch for the kids to give the plaster time to cure)

How to Make: Energy Beads

How does energy move through the food chain? How much energy is lost between each level? Students will make beaded necklace or bracelet that will help them understand this concept. Grade 2 or higher.

Introduction to Osteology

Students compare and contrast skeletal structures of various animals. Focus on the skull structure, tooth shapes, adaptations for carnivores, herbivores and omnivores, cat in detail. This class is best for 3rd grade or above.

Cats & Cultures

Explore how the many different cultures have integrated the cats into their culture. The cheetah, leopard and caracals were all part of the lives of Egyptian. Perfect for 6th grade standards.

Ecosystem Adventure

Learn about some of the different ecosystems. Students will visit discovery stations that help them discover the special adaptations that many cats have to survive in various ecosystems. 3-4 grade reading level preferred.

From Stripes to Spots

Students design a decorative and elaborate cat mask to wear and take home. We will talk about different physical and behavioral strategies that cats have to make them best able to survive and thrive in their environment. Grade 4 and under.

Cat Mosaic

Students make a colorful paper cat mosaic to take home. We will talk about camouflage and how each cat’s spot or stripe pattern is different. Grade 3 and under

Cat Chat

Get an up-close experience with one of our small cat ambassadors during a Cat Chat. In this 30 minute encounter, keepers will demonstrate some of the specialized behaviors our cats know and explain why ambassadors play such an important role at Cat Haven.While Cat Haven staff reserve the right to select an ambassador on the date of the event, possible small cat species include Serval, Caracal, Lynx or Cheetah. Cat participation varies. Due to Federal law, no touching of the cats is permitted.

During this experience, Cat Haven staff may take your camera or phone to get exclusive and closer photos for you.

Conservation Ethics

Students discuss the morality and ethics of overlapping in territory with native wildlife. Students learn ways for communities and cats to coexist with an interactive game board. This is best adapted to grade 3 and above.
